About Chakras

The word ‘chakra’ is derived from a Sanskrit word meaning ‘wheel’. Chakras are our energy centres. Each of these centres corresponds to an area of the body, certain behavioural characteristics and stages of spiritual growth. Chakras are whirling concentrated energy centres that receive, assimilate and express life force energy. Chakras draw in Divine life-force energy from the Universe and distribute this vital energy to the physical glands and organs in the body and through the bloodstream and nervous system for optimum health and well-being.

There are 7 chakras or energy points located within our physical bodies. They are the openings for life energy to flow into and out of our aura. Their function is to vitalize the physical body and to bring about the development of our self-consciousness. They are associated with our physical, mental and emotional interactions. Good health and well-being is achieved by a balance of all these energies.

Balancing your Chakras
Chakras are like the power stations of our body, bringing it to life, and keeping it healthy. The chakras absorb energy that comes from our thoughts, feelings and outside environment and feed this to our body. Our body is affected by the quality of the energy that passes through the chakras. For instance, if we have negative feelings, we will be filtering negative energy through our chakras and into our body. Over time this can affect our physical body. Chakras also absorb energy from the environment around us. We can absorb energy from other people’s negative emotions or from a room full of clutter.

We cannot avoid coming into contact with negative energy or feeling down sometimes, but there is a lot that we can do to change our feelings from negative to positive and to protect ourselves from harmful energy in the environment. Keeping our chakras in tip-top condition is the key, in other words keeping them spinning in balance. Chakra balancing is a bit like spring-cleaning the chakras and fine-tuning them. Balancing your chakras improves your health and wellbeing, physically, mentally and emotionally.

We can influence our chakras, our health, and our lives by using different techniques such as:
