Enneagram

Understanding Ourselves and Others in Our Lives

The Enneagram is a study of nine basic personality types. Ennea is Greek for the number nine, and gram means a drawing, the Enneagram is represented by a drawing with nine points, a circle divided into nine sections with the points three, six and nine forming a triangle and the other points interconnected forming an irregular shaped ‘star’.  The Enneagram has roots in antiquity and was popularised in the 1960′s by Oscar Ichazo.

In our search for self-understanding the Enneagram plays a part in helping us to identify our particular personality styles, that is the  many masks we have developed in our early lives in order to cope with life.  We are then in a position to accept of reject these personality traits.  Personality traits are an accumulation of habits we have developed as self-protective devices and strategies.  These become habits which we act out of throughout our life.

By working with the enneagram we develop a deeper understanding of ourselves and others and learn alternatives to our own patterns of behaviour.  We break free from coping strategies and begin to see life from a broader point of view.    This ultimately means that we are more in control of our lives and can accept  responsibility for our actions.

This course is an introduction to the Enneagram, a study of the characteristics of nine basic types of personality. Through self-exploration it fosters a deeper understanding of who we are, our potential and how to attain it.

It explains why we behave as we do, and it points to specific directions for individual growth. It is an important tool for improving relationships with family, friends, and co-workers.

The Enneagram can be extremely useful to everyone as a source of self-knowledge because it acts as a kind of “mirror” to reveal features of our personality that normally are invisible to us.

Most of the time we operate as if on “automatic pilot”. This course helps us to identify our habits and increases our self-awareness.
